A crafty and cool pin for a fall jacket

Crochet pin
yellow crochet pin
blue crochet pin
Here in NYC light jacket weather is just about upon us…these pins from the Rivulette shop on Etsy.com would look really groovy on a little denim jacket. At $15 a pop I think I’m going to need one in each color! Tres chic!

Lighting option for the math obsessed

Fibonacci lampFibonacci lamp flat
Aaron at Apartment Therapy wrote up some miniature concrete buildings from Pullpush today, but I wanted to follow up on that and show you another cool piece that we saw at the same booth. This is a rubber lampshade based on the Fibonacci mathematical sequence. I am sure you already know what the Fibonacci sequence is, but as a reminder, this is the sequence that can be found in a surprising number things in nature. Pinecones, spiral shells, and sunflowers are a few things that have Fibonacci in common. Available from a very cool website that is sure to be a new favorite, Mollaspace.

Art Department gets an A+

Art Department wreath

Art Department is always one of my favorite booths at the NYIGF, they are so friendly, and their products are seriously smile inducing. I loved the addition of wreaths to their lineup, as well as the flower arrangements in vases. Those would be a very cheery addition to my new desk!
You can order right from the company via their website www.artdep.com

Back to school in style

leather bound dictionary
Perhaps this post is a week or so late, but I am thinking that these Leather bound dictionarys from thisisauto.com seem like the most perfect gift for a new student to begin their collegiate adventures. In addition to being thoughtful, practical and stylishly colored, this is a gift that a student can keep and use forever.

Cookie canisters

Western Ware canisters
I guess it was a year or so ago I blogged about Western Ware and their collection of housewares with historical photos of the ol’ west on them. Well they were at the show again this year, and they had a line of chuckwagon themed kitchen paraphernalia at their booth that really caught my eye. I especially loved this set of canisters which would be perfect for keeping the varmints out of your grub. Check westernware.net for a retailer near you.

New Marimekko fabrics for Fall

Marimekko ornament fabric
Marimekko jaguar fabric
Marimekko had some nice new fabrics and colorways of older fabrics on display at the show. We especially loved these two examples called “purnukka” and “sininen gepardi” respectively. Marimekko does not sell direct to the public…yet so I found an online source for you. Available from the Textile Arts website.

Refined canvas bags

Dothebag backpack
dothebag messenger
dothebag travel bag
Personally I love an understated and well made bag…if it is in a funky material like these made from the canvas that convertible car roofs used to be made of, all the better. These even latch with the clasps that those manually closed car roofs hooked to the car with. Very clever!
Although these bags are not yet available in the U.S. according to their website, the fact that they were at the gift show pretty much guarantees there will be a stateside retailer soon. Until then we can enjoy the photos on their site, www.dothebag.de let’s hope they get picked up by a store post haste!
